Terapi Probiotik dan Prebiotik pada Penyakit Saluran Cerna Anak

Probiotik merupakan kuman yang berasal dari usus manusia, yang bila dikonsumsi per
oral akan menimbulkan dampak positif bagi tubuh. Terapi probiotik sebenarnya
merupakan metoda tradisional yang digunakan untuk memperkuat daya tahan tubuh
dan melawan penyakit; namun penjelasan ilmiahnya baru diungkapkan pada tahun 1907.
Dalam 10 tahun terakhir ini, penelitian mengenai probiotik dan prebiotik berkembang
sangat pesat. Terdapat bukti bahwa probiotik bermanfaat dalam pencegahan dan
pengobatan beberapa penyakit saluran cerna, termasuk diare infeksi, diare karena
antibiotik, travellers diarrhea dan intoleransi laktosa. Penggunaan probiotik sejauh ini
aman. Penggunaan prebiotik yang dapat merangsang pertumbuhan kuman probiotik
dalam saluran cerna mulai banyak mendapat perhatian.
