Pengenalan secara dini tanda dan gejala perburukan klinis pada pasien anak di ruang perawatan merupakan faktor utama demi kelangsungan hidup dan memperbaiki prognosis. Anamnesis dan pemeriksaan fisis singkat diperlukan untuk mendapatkan data yang akurat agar intervensi oleh tim medis reaksi cepat (TMRC) dapat dilakukan segera, sehingga mencegah perburukan klinis menjadi gagal sirkulasi, gagal napas, atau henti kardiopulmonal. Pediatric early warning score (PEWS) merupakan salah satu alat atau sistem skoring menggunakan karakteristik pasien yang dapat mendeteksi perburukan klinis pada anak di ruang rawat inap saat ini belum ada konsensus dan juga bukti sistem PEW yang paling berguna atau ‘optimal’ untuk kasus anak.
